Money. It's not that fun a conversation topic. But we wanted to tell you about the ways we're trying to make our workshops financially accessible as well as sustainable for our business. For us, this is about making sure we’re paying our team and our bills while still making sure that people are not excluded from participating in our work.
A full registration for an eight-week course is $210. However, for all our workshops there is a special Earlybird registration fee open to anyone who signs up on time. Our upcoming workshops (The Other 90% and Scenes from Nothing) both have an Earlybird rate of $175 which is available until a few weeks before the courses start. Check the listings for the deadlines - it’s a great way to save yourself some dollars and to help us be confident a course can go ahead!
We also offer a concession rate to every single workshop. For an eight-week course this is set at $165, and we offer that to students, senior citizens, and unwaged participants. Weekend and one-off courses will also have an appropriate concession rate available. There is no time limit for registering with this rate.
Once you register for a course with us, we will send you an invoice for the appropriate fee. If you can’t pay all of it at once, don’t worry - we’ll work out a payment plan for you across the term.
Finally, we offer the equivalent of two full scholarship places to each course we offer at Locomotive. This could be two participants attending fully subsidised, four partially subsidised participants, etc. The allocation will depend on demand and availability - if only two people apply, that's sorted, if more people apply, we'll allocate it randomly. We don’t ask you for any ‘proof’ of your need, we only ask that you commit to taking the course (as we ask every person registering with us!). You can apply for these places through the registration form - again, check the listings for the relevant deadlines.
As time goes on our policies may change to best serve our goal of access + sustainability. We welcome your feedback on how it goes this year, and we’re also happy to talk to you about which option is appropriate for you and your situation. Get in touch on firstname.lastname@example.org and we’ll chat.
