the sublet - a venue within a venue
The Sublet is a semi-regular takeover of a space at BATS Theatre, where our director Jennifer O'Sullivan curates a short & sharp line up of improv and improv-adjacent performances.
We are grateful to be funded by BATS's curation funding, supported by Wellington City Council.
This month we are in the Dome on August 13-15 with six different shows over three nights - heaps on offer and something for every taste!
Next Sublet is October 15-17.

THEATRESPORTS
7pm Thursday 13 August
Two teams fearlessly take the stage and with no scripts, they take turns performing scenes, playing games, telling stories and creating characters entirely spontaneously.
CHARACT-HER
8:30pm Thursday 13 August
They've wowed audiences around Australasia for 5 years with their character comedy and expert eye for satire. Now, the 'Comic Originality' winners Ginge and Minge (NZ Comedy Guild Awards 2025) bring their favourite five female characters to into one 50min show.
BEST ON TAP'S HAPPY HOUR
7pm Friday 14 August
Taking prompts from the audience, Best on Tap will create an intoxicating array of scenes and stories to start your weekend right.
SCRATCH NIGHT

Join us for a night of messy works in progress where Pōneke creatives test their ideas in front of a Friday night crowd.
LITTLE SHOP OF GRADUATES
7pm Saturday 15 August
Join the graduates of PopRox Musical improv course as they make up original songs and musical scenes on the spot!
LATE NIGHT KNIFE FIGHT
8:30pm Saturday 15 August
The monthly-ish improv battle where three teams face off in a fight for glory, honour, and the audience's favour.
