You don't need us to tell you what a heck of a year it's been. For us here at Locomotive, we just ticked over our first birthday, and this first year has been nothing like what we expected…
On June 30 2019 we hosted our introductory workshop and party, kicking off our journey. We ran guest workshops with Jim Fishwick (Melbourne at the time), Steven Lyons (Auckland), and Christiane Brew (Japan), and hosted a series of workshops with Jen on Scenes from Nothing. In 2020 we officially took on management of Late Night Knife Fight, started running our monthly show One Act/Play to allow our faculty some play time and to keep up our performance chops, and started gearing up to run more term-based workshops, working within our framework of Mindset, Context, Skillset and Joy. And then... Well. You know.
Taking such a big break so early on has been challenging. But we're still here - we're still passionate about improvised theatre, about providing positive learning experiences, and about supporting the wider improv and theatre community with our expertise and enthusiasm. We just presented our first post-lock down shows at BATS, and we're soon running a workshop for people looking to develop new concepts for LNKF (curious? Join us here to learn more). We're available as guest teachers or coaches for your company or ensemble, and we've got more plans in development. If you want to talk training, you can reach us on hello@locomotive.nz. In the meantime, we hope you've all stayed safe and well, and can't wait to see you in a workshop, audience, or on stage with us. Thanks for staying on board.
